01/05/06 - Think pressing is a minor issue on the comics scene? Take a look at this example...
Boy Comics #17 Edgar Church (Mile High) Pedigree - Sold for $368 by Heritage Auctions on 04 Aug 02.

Same comic sold for $552 by Heritage on 16 Jul 03.

Yet the same comic offered by Heritage in their current auction.

So...a comic can go from 4.0 to 9.0 (VG to NM-) just by using a little dry eraser and pressing? This is a case of either CGC screwing up the grade so badly the first two times that we now have a correction, after pressing, restoration in my opinion but not CGC's, or...Heritage really does get lenient grades from CGC as has been rumored in the past.
Regardless, this is a perfect example of how the advent of pressing, condoned by CGC, is skewing the grades collectors think they're getting. This used to be a straight forward hobby. A comic was restored or not and a grade applied by the collector. Now it's like the wild wild west all over again...
Thanks to Arty on the CGC Forum for finding this...
